There’s nothing quite like shooting a wedding in Islington, London. I love travelling up to the city; it’s not too far from my studio in Guildford and it’s a stunning canvas for capturing those special memories. Lauren and Andrew’s wedding in Islington was another of my best-loved London wedding photography memories. The couple were lovely to work with and I had plenty of resources to make their album memorable, including an iconic London Routemaster.
2h wedding photography job
I first came into contact with the couple when Lauren found my wedding photography services online, about a month before her wedding. She booked me in for a two-hour shoot, and we met formally for the first time just 20 minutes before she took her vows.
Lauren arrived with her “squad” of ladies and we had a great time shooting some fun, “girly” snaps – I like to think we made them look like a girl band! Of course, it wouldn’t be a modern wedding without a few selfies and smartphones, so these were all thrown into the mix in what was a very chilled out, laughter-filled experience.
Thankfully, Andrew was just as chilled out as his soon-to-be bride, and I also met him just a few minutes before the ceremony took place. Lauren and Andrew’s relaxed disposition allowed me to be a little more creative with their shots, including using a wide-angle lens for something a little different.
Group wedding photography
If you’ve ever been to a wedding in Islington Town Hall, you’ll remember its grand staircase, which proved to be a fantastic setting for group shots. The couple’s family and friends were just as fun-loving as them and were only too willing to participate!
After the group shots, a Routemaster was outside waiting for the couple and their entourage. Lauren had made sure all of her loved ones were looked after with sandwiches and drinks for the journey, so I took the opportunity to get a few more shots as the bus was in motion. Wedding photography on a moving object is a lot of fun – that I can tell you! Again, the group were only too happy to pose with their champagne and snacks, so we managed to capture the fun spirit of the journey perfectly.
In my classic 007 style, I jumped off the bus at a red light after an hour’s journey. The couple and their guests journeyed on for their reception and evening celebrations, and I set about putting their photos into post production. Whilst this was only a two-hour project, I had a wonderful day with Lauren and Andrew, experimenting with different photography styles and jumping off London buses! I wish them the very best for the future and look forward to photographing another wedding in Islington soon.
