After shooting Julie and Martin’s engagement back in autumn I couldn’t wait to photograph their wedding at the stunning Rochester Cathedral before moving onto Nurstead Court later on. Working as a wedding photographer at Rochester Cathedral was quite a privilege and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I started the day with Martin, who was greeting guests in a pub in front of Rochester Cathedral. He was dressed in a traditional Scottish kilt – a great look for the groom! Julie arrived some time later with her son, who brought her to the altar. It was a wonderfully uplifting atmosphere inside Rochester Cathedral with beautiful music and singing from the church’s choir boys.

After the ceremony, I made sure I got a group shot inside the cathedral, making use of a strong studio flash to light up such a large room. Rochester Cathedral is wonderfully placed opposite Rochester Castle, making it a great backdrop for a group photograph. I got one last guest shot, and then a few more family and couple pictures in the church garden, before we all headed off to Nurstead Court for the reception which was just a short drive away from Rochester Cathedral.
Nurstead Court is a great wedding venue for families, and the children enjoyed traditional English tea while playing outdoor games. Julie’s sons made some hilarious speeches in the marquee, complete with a slideshow to embarrass mum! After the wedding breakfast, guests got involved in archery and croquet while the May sun beat down on us.
Wedding celebrations at Nurstead Court
Whilst the family were busy playing games, I took the newlyweds off for a quick sunset photo shoot. The trees made for a perfect background and we could not have been luckier with the weather. The evening’s wedding entertainment was even more exciting than the daytime’s, complete with a band and Scottish dancing! Julie and Martin then treated their guests to a hog roast with even more games and dancing, so it’s safe to say there was never a dull moment. If you’re wondering how to celebrate your wedding right, this is it!
I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Julie and Martin over the last few months, and I’m so happy their wedding day went without a hitch – I wish them all the best for the future!
