My job takes me to all sorts of wedding venues, but it was great to photograph for Wayne and Lorraine on a boat, the beautiful Tereza Joanne!
Wayne and Lorraine had booked me for an all-day wedding shoot including an engagement photography package, so I’d already got to know the couple quite well by this point. Today’s shoot would see me heading to East London to enjoy the festivities.
Wedding photography at Tereza Joanne
The couple had chosen to get married on a boat called Tereza Joanne in Newham, close by to London City Airport. (Thankfully, there are no flights on Saturdays!) We started the wedding day with separate shoots of the bride and groom in a nearby hotel. The ladies were all wearing matching robes, which made for a beautiful multi-generational shot on the bed. I made sure I got all the essential details from the dress to the flowers before heading down to meet Wayne, where I focused on the groomsmen essentials – everything from tying the tie to putting on cufflinks. All of these are must have shots for any wedding photographer.
I arrived at the venue about 30 minutes before Wayne to photograph the finer details of the wedding venue at Tereza Joanne. Their chef was already on deck cooking Caribbean style chicken, which was a very enticing aroma to welcome the wedding guests! The couple entertained guests with an exit dance following a beautiful civil wedding ceremony, before heading outside for drinks and canapés.
Wedding photography at any weather
As guests enjoyed mingling on the top deck of Tereza Joanne, I took the group shots. The wind was starting to pick up and rain clouds began to appear – you never can know what to expect in this country! Thankfully we headed back inside for dinner and a quick break for me. The barbecued food was absolutely out of this world. Yes, as a wedding photographer I have tasted food from all over the world by now.
Wayne and Lorraine decided to have ‘open mic’ wedding speeches, whereby the mic was passed around to anybody who wanted to say a few words to the couple – very emotional indeed! And emotions is what every wedding photographer is looking for. Later on the guests enjoyed a few more drinks at the bar while staff turned the room around for the evening’s festivities. Unfortunately for us, the heavens had begun to open by this point – as I say, you never can know what to expect when it comes to British weather.
Photographs on the top deck of Tereza Joanne
As the evening wedding guests began to arrive, the party kicked off with the first dance and some impressive Caribbean style dancing. Equally as impressive was the wedding cake, which gave the guests some much-needed energy for even more dancing. Needless to say I did photograph the wedding cake before it was cut.
A quick peek outside saw me notice the rain had momentarily stopped, so I grabbed the wedding couple and made a run for it to the upper deck. We were super rushed to get all the shots in just 10 minutes before the sunset, but the results were definitely worth it! Sunset shots are often the most impressive ones in any wedding photography gallery.
The wedding festivities began to wind down with an evening buffet, and I made sure I got on the dance floor to capture some of those amazing dance moves. It was a challenging day with the weather, but a very fun experience and a great chance to work with Wayne and Lorraine again.
