I first worked with Emma and Chris when I shot their engagement shoot. I’m pleased to say they upgraded to a combined all-day photo and video package!
Wedding videography at the Grasshopper Inn
A combined video and photography package always calls for my trusty assistant, so we started filming at the Grasshopper Inn in Westerham, Kent. Some of my clients like to have interviews before and/or after the ceremony, but Emma and Chris decided against this – instead, they just wanted us to focus on telling their story without any spoken narrative.
We took a few shots of Emma and Chris putting together their final touches, from applying make up to adjusting chairs in the ceremony room. Then we began setting up for the main event. We set up three separate cameras to capture the nuptials from every angle, while the Chris and the registrar were also fitted with microphone. We even managed to sneak a microphone into the flowers – very stealthy!
Filming the speeches
The ceremony segued into a very relaxed afternoon with guests mingling before the wedding breakfast. We took some casual shots of the newlyweds’ family and friends chatting before setting up for the speeches. This time, all the groomsmen were fitted with radio mics to capture the clearest sound possible. There were laughs all round as guests settled into the afternoon, ready to get stuck into a slice of wedding cake made entirely of cheese!
My assistant and I co-ordinated the still images and video shots outside as I took Emma and Chris’ couple portraits. These came out beautifully as I spliced the still images into the final video. Later on, we set up stationary cameras on different levels to capture the first dance from all levels, as well as the guests’ amazing dance moves!
Final video editing
When it came to editing Emma and Chris’ wedding venues, I made two versions. The video shown in this blog is the shorter version, which has been edited to be concise enough to share online. Emma and Chris also have a longer version for their family archive, which includes the ceremony in full and all of the speeches.
