Tasha and Gareth Engagement Shoot

Tasha and Gareth
Engagement Shoot

Wedding photography isn’t always about the weddings – many couples choose to commemorate their celebrations with an engagement photo shoot as well! This was the case for Tasha and Gareth, who found me online and asked me to capture some images to celebrate their engagement.

Engagement photo shoots are great opportunity to get to know the couple and to prepare for their wedding celebrations as well. We met at their venue on a beautiful day – not a cloud in the sky! We discussed every part of the wedding – as a photographer, it’s incredibly important for me to know everything from names to locations, timetables and even phone numbers. That way I can plan out the entire day, allowing enough time to travel in between the bride and groom’s houses and make sure I get to the venue before the bride does!

Casual, relaxed poses

It was great to find out a little more about Tasha and Gareth in a relaxed environment – no wedding nerves just yet! They dressed casually for the big shoot to reflect a relaxed, happy vibe. We looked around and found some beautiful corners to take some chilled out, smiley shots. I encouraged them to play around and be themselves – I don’t like to interfere too much. My job is to compose the image in as natural an environment as possible. This helped us to get some great, natural smiles, plus some more intimate close up shots.

Experimenting with shadows

The weather came as a great advantage to us, particularly for me in the editing studio. I played with some contrast and managed to create wonderfully sharp images of contrasting shadows against the sunlight – I’m particularly proud of the shot from below with the midday sun and strike of cloud across the background. Nature is my colour palette! I also edited some shots in black and white to give Tasha and Gareth some variety.

Of course, the stars of the show were Tasha and Gareth, who were a joy to work with. They’ve chosen a wonderful wedding venue with plenty of standing and seated photo opportunities, so I can’t wait to photograph their wedding! Keep an eye out for my blog on their wedding very soon!
