10x Psychology

On this corporate photography session, I was asked to take a series of headshots for 10x Psychology, a Guildford-based start-up focusing on improving the employee experience.

It warms my heart to see start-up companies doing well – especially those that are located in my hometown of Guildford! I have worked with 10x a few times over the last 12 months, so I was happy to be called in once again. These are usually only small sessions, perhaps even as short as 20 minutes, but with such a short distance to travel, it’s no trouble.

New corporate headshots for 10x Psychology

The beauty of 10x Psychology is that they are so modern – no sterile headshots that could end up on a stock photo website! As such, we went for a natural look, with the real-life office working environment in the background.

To perfect these shots, I use a very advanced (and expensive!) portrait lens. This allows me to home in on the foreground – in this case, an employee – and create a beautiful blurring effect on the background.

These kinds of shots are ideal for making the model stand out, whilst also encapsulating the workspace vibe.

Office lifestyle shots

For a truly natural shoot, I also added some lifestyle shots. I went into reportage mode as I asked the 10x team to just go about their day as if I weren’t there. Anything from chatting through a headset to making a point in a meeting was all there on my lens!

To round off the day, we finished with some group shots. These weren’t stuffy or forced – I had the team sit and stand very comfortably, as if they were in a very informal environment. I think this sums up what the company is all about – getting the best out of the workforce you can!
