Based in London, Polish-born Joanna is a multi-award winning actress and has a very long IMDB credit list. I had the pleasure of taking some actress headshots for her in London to build up her portfolio.

Actress headshots in Soho

There’s never a dull moment when you’re an actress, it seems! Joanna had a very busy schedule, so I was hired by her agent to photograph her in between two appointments. We had just one hour to capture the perfect headshot, so I had to be creative.

We wandered around Soho looking for the perfect spot. Thankfully, London is pretty generous when it comes to good photography spots, so I found a lovely staircase for Joanna to sit upon and smile for the camera.

Black and white photography

Any good photographer knows that actress headshots are not about the outfit! The weather was chilly and Joanna wore a very neutral jumper, so we looked to the atmosphere around us to complement the shots. The walls around us were ideal for creating warm light around Joanna, and really helped to bring out her delicate skin tones.

Added to this, there was a gentle breeze in the air which waved its way through Joanna’s hair beautifully. We decided to make the final edits half colour and half black and white – if you’ve read through my previous blogs you’ll see I’m a big fan of the latter! Joanna was too, so I’m pleased to say she was thrilled with the final outcome.

Post-production editing

Joanna was a joy to work with – ever the professional, she certainly knew how to pose, and we managed to take over 500 shots in just 60 minutes. I had a great time in post-production trimming this down to the final 50 before sending them to Joanna’s agent, who narrowed it down to a final seven. I retouched them and got them sent back within the day – Joanna and her agent were so pleased, they gave me a five star review!

I’m willing to turn my hand to any type of photography, from weddings to actress headshots. To find out more about how my photography packages can help you, get in touch with me today.
