Just a stone’s throw from me in neighbouring Surrey, Hampshire offers an arresting landscape of rolling hills, historic castles and lush woodland areas. If you’re looking for a Hampshire wedding photographer, you’ll want somebody close by with knowledge of the area and tips on the best venues for your big day.
Why choose Hampshire for a wedding?
Though stunning all year round, Hampshire really lends itself to a spring or summer wedding. Its green landscape is home to a wealth of hills from Ladle Hill down to Farley Mount, making it the natural home to many country manors and other large hotels.
For something evening more grandiose, Hampshire also houses many castles and cathedrals. Highcliffe Castle offers awe-inspiring clifftop views with a 19th Century gothic style, with the coast in easy reach. Farnham Castle, meanwhile, dates back to the 12th Century, offering total privacy and a huge back catalogue of historical tales from the Tudors to the Second World War.
Religious ceremonies take no finer form than weddings at Winchester Cathedral. As one of the largest cathedrals in Europe, couples with a large guestlist and a strong connection to the church will have an unforgettable day in this Grade I listed building. Similarly, there are other cathedrals nearby such as Portsmouth Cathedral, dating back to the 1100s.
Wedding photography in Hampshire
Living in nearby Guildford, I’m fortunate enough to have captured many weddings in Hampshire, plus a few other celebrations. For example, Helena and Luke booked me for wedding videography at Cain Manor, a 16th Century Elizabethan building on the Surrey and Hampshire border.
If you haven’t chosen your Hampshire wedding venue yet, I can highly recommend Cain Manor. Sat on the slope of the South Downs, it provides a fantastic backdrop for wedding photography, with a rustic barn feel that complements any summer wedding.
Engagement photography in Hampshire
Engagement photography is a great way to build anticipation for the great day. I’ve been asked to photograph newly engaged couples for wedding invitations and much more. One engagement shoot in Hampshire was Jodie and George’s. We met up at the Hylney Hall Hotel in Hook, a luxury country house with its very own outdoor pool!
I’d recommend this as a wedding venue and a location for your engagement shoot. For a more relaxed stroll around the gardens, there are plenty of archways and benches to pose on, or these can be made more formal in your wedding dress. Plus, if you are booking for the big day, your guests can’t say no to that pool!

Getting here…or flying away
For dream honeymoon destinations or just an exciting hen or stag do before the big day, Southampton Airport flies to multiple destinations in France, Spain and Portugal. Relatives coming from further afield can make their way in from the Channel Islands or Dublin on a short flight.
Naturally, with its close connections to the coast, relatives and friends can make their way over from Bilbao, Cherbourg, the Isle of Wight and much more. Or how about a Caribbean cruise for your ultimate honeymoon getaway? Southampton plays host to many luxury cruise lines, helping you sail away into married life in style.
Hampshire is just an hour away from London by train, with 22 trains operating every day. It’s also just one hour’s drive back to the M25 – ideal for hiring a coach to ferry your guests in from all over!
Beyond the big day
In addition to its huge range of wedding venues and numerous transport connections, Hampshire is a hub of activity. For families enjoying an extended stay, or perhaps just an afternoon out while you’re exploring wedding venues, there are a whole range of tourist attractions in Hampshire.
Why not re-connect with nature on a stroll through the New Forest? As a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, the forest is home to many nature trails – a vast expanse of 150 square miles. When you’re done cuddling up with the native ponies, it’s also a great area for an engagement photography shoot!
There is plenty going on in Hampshire for the kids, too. Paultons Park in Romsey will keep the little ones busy for hours thanks to the famous Peppa Pig World theme park! Close by to the Alice Holt Forest, there’s also Birdworld, the largest bird park in the United Kingdom, with over 26 acres of attractions.
Hampshire also has plenty to offer adults thanks to its rich history. Head over to Jane Austen’s House Museum for a little romantic inspiration for your big day, or go back to Victorian times at the Milestones Museum of Living History. With so much to see and do, you might find some inspiration for your wedding anniversary!
