Every online shop requires good product photography. They say a picture says more than a thousand words and this saying definitely applies to selling online. Potential customers want to see the product; and they want to see it as clearly as possible.
I was recently commissioned to photograph the entire stock of Bella Bambinos for their new online shop at http://www.bellabambinos.co.uk/.
Bella Bambinos sell high quality baby and children clothes in their Boutiques in Surrey. Most of their products are hand-made in Italy and Spain. Their Facebook page has over 13k followers; mostly parents sharing their buying experiences and recommending products to each other.
Bella Bambinos is very aware of the impact good product photography has online: on their online shop but also on their social media reputation. Buyers and interested parents share and discuss products and send each other product photos.
Together with their marketing manager I spent a weekend in one of the Bella Bambinos boutiques photographing each single item. I brought my product photography table (completely white surface) and three very strong flashes with soft boxes. This setup ensured a perfectly and evenly lid scene for both small and large products. The smallest items were baby socks and the largest items were combinations of tops and trousers for eight year olds.
We had a very efficient workflow: I stayed behind the camera to make sure everything is sharp and well-exposed while the marketing manager and her team placed the items on the table one after the other. This was a high volume shoot – their online shop includes several hundred items.
Online shops often require perfect square photos. During post-production I had to reframe each photo to make sure it is in the middle of the square.
In my opinion Bella Bambinos is the perfect example of the importance of good product photography. Customers expect to see high quality images of each product in the online shop and they like to share these photos on social media too.
