I have recently upgraded my studio with everything I need for professional product photography.
Any marketing (online or offline) needs good product photography. Product photography is all about perfection.
The angle has to be perfect and show the product from its best side. The light has to be perfect to make every little detail clearly visible. Ugly shadows should be avoided at all costs. If a product has a reflective surface or reflective elements it is essential to make these visible during the product photo shoot.
I always use professional macro lenses as they allow me to come really close to the product. They are also incredibly sharp (f30 and above!) which is especially important if the product photos are to be printed.
One of my recent product photo shoots was for AJ Cases Ltd. AJ Cases is one of the market leaders in mobile phone accessories in the UK. They exclusively sell their products via the Amazon Prime Marketplace.
They sent me a couple of leather iPhone cases to photograph. The case features a secure bracket to hold and protect an iPhone. The bracket snaps tightly on the phone giving the product a high quality look and feel. The cases are made of real leather, which feels good in the hand. It also has two pockets for credit cards and one for cash.
I took photos of the product from all possible angles always making sure that the leather surface nicely reflects some light in order to emphasise its structure. It took photos of the product opened and closed, standing and sitting, front and back.
In post-production I had to remove tiny pieces of dust on the iPhone screen. The camera sees a lot more than the human eye! Fortunately removing such small imperfections is a matter of a few clicks in Photoshop.
