The Guildford Register Office is located in Artington House at Portsmouth Road. It’s a lovely old building accommodating the Guildford Register Office and two stunning wedding ceremony rooms. I’ve had the pleasure to shoot weddings in both of them. Both rooms feature generous south-facing windows creating a beautifully lit scene inside.
Last week I was asked by Cathy and Luke to shoot their wedding here at Artington House. As a Guildford-based photographer the Guildford Register Office is in easy reach for me (just 10min by car). Cathy and Luke will have a grand wedding in Italy in two weeks time. The civil ceremony at the Guildford Register Office was just to cover the legal part. They intended to make it ‘quick and easy’ but when it came to the important bit – exchanging vows and rings – both were a bit more emotional than they anticipated.
Even though this event was quite small in size (just five guests) I tried to take personal and emotional photos. As always I shoot in silent mode to disturb as little as possible.
After the ceremony we went outside for a few group shots. The stairs just in front of the Guildford Register Office are a good location for that. After various combinations of people I asked Cathy and Luke to come with me to the side of the building for a few couple shots of them. I asked them to stand naturally, cuddle a bit and even dance in front of the camera. Both of them are very photogenic – it was a very easy shoot for me.
Lastly we moved back inside the Guildford Register Office. I asked Cathy and Luke to first stand and then sit on the stairs, which looked beautiful. The last shot I took was both of them sitting in the waiting area, which again – due to them both being so relaxed – made a very good picture.
I sent 110 photos to Cathy and Luke the next morning. They were very please with my work and left me a 5 star review.
