Wedding Photography and Filmmaking

Thanks to the advent of technology, love can happen pretty quickly these days! Lucy and John met on Match.com and booked me in for an all-day photography and filmmaking package in Greenwich. They’d only got engaged the summer before, but they didn’t want to wait until summer 2017 so instead they went for an extra special New Year’s Eve wedding – a double celebration!

All-day photography and filmmaking

The last day of 2016 got off to an early start for me as I headed to Lasyk’s house for the initial shots. She was getting ready with her friends and family, some of whom had flown in all the way from Portugal for the big day.

I started off with a short video interview to help calm Lasyk’s nerves. Then I moved on to still photography and managed to get some lovely natural shots of the ladies as they got their hair and make-up done.

Next up was a short drive over to see Joe, who’d not had much sleep the night before – he’d been enjoying one last hurrah in the pub with the lads! I filmed a video interview with him before leaving him to get changed in time for the ceremony.

Wedding ceremony filming

I drove to the church and set up three video cameras on tripods with the help of my assistant. These would help to capture the ceremony from all angles as they were running continuously throughout – perfect for editing later on.

As the pair took their vows, the freestanding video cameras allowed me to go in and take both still and moving shots with one hand-held camera. This was great for Lasyk and Joe as there was only one person at the altar. As with all my reportage photography, I remained as unobtrusive as possible.

Outdoor photo shoot in Greenwich Park

After the ceremony, the newlyweds and I made the 10-minute drive to Greenwich Park where we spent 30 minutes or so taking still photographs. Lasyk wasn’t going to let the December weather put her off, and stayed smiling despite the short sleeves! Later on we drove to the Trafalgar Tavern by the Greenwich Maritime Institute. The venue’s beautiful staircase made for a wonderful photograph as the guests stood throwing confetti.

Round two of the day’s filmmaking saw my trusty three cameras filming all of the special moments including the dinner, speeches, cake cutting and the first dance. They helped me to capture hours of footage which I knew I’d enjoy editing later.

The night came to a close in style with a salsa dancing class, and it was great to see everybody really enjoying themselves. I returned to reportage photography on foot at 11pm; then of course came the big New Year’s Eve countdown! It was wonderful to watch the fireworks over London and I couldn’t have pictured a more perfect scene to round off the day.

I’m pleased to say Lasyk and Joe were extremely pleased with my work, and left me a five star review. It’s certainly not the most conventional New Year’s Eve celebration I’ve ever had but it was great to see in 2017 with a bang!
