RKS Squeegee Grinding Machine
Industry Product Video Production

Working in the photography industry, I must confess I do come across some pretty “quirky” projects! By quirky, I mean specialised of course, and nothing could be considered more specialised than the Squeegee Grinding Machine by RKS.

Industry product video production

I was hired by RKS for an industry product video production project. They’re based in Germany, and they hired me for an all-day shoot, so it was great to be back on home turf for a day! In typical German fashion, I flew over the night before the shoot in preparation for an early start.

If you’re not familiar with the term, “Squeegees” are an integral part of the screen printing process – they’re not just for cleaning windows! To ensure that every single print has even paint distribution, the Squeegee has to have the perfect edge, which can be achieved by regular grinding.

The experts at RKS have now developed a fully automated machine to facilitate this grinding machine. All the operator has to do is clamp the Squeegee in place and choose the appropriate grinding program. The machine works by scanning the length of the Squeegee, using a built-in laser. The machine then passes over the Squeegee with a diamond-coated grinding wheel, giving the Squeegee a beautifully clean, neat finish – good as new. I’m learning more and more with every industry product video production project I take on!

I chose a relaxed, professional sounding piece of music to overlay the product video narration. I wanted to capture a corporate feel that would make learning how to use the machine look as simple as possible, so I added subtitles where appropriate. Today, RKS are using this product video on their website, as well as their exhibition stands, so it’s great to see my work come alive.

As I say, I’m always learning with my product photography packages and am keen to learn more – if you’d like to discuss filming your product, drop me a line today.
