Wedding Timeline

A lot of time (often over a year!) can pass from the moment you first start thinking about your wedding photography until you the two of you are enjoying your final wedding pictures on your honeymoon. I have created this timeline to show you a typical chain of events from a wedding photographer’s point of view. If you have any questions feel free to get in touch.

Venue

The biggest decision is your wedding date and venue. Many venues get booked way over 12 months ahead (especially during the summer). Once you have made this decision you can organise everything else around it.

Find your photographer and videographer

Most couples get in touch with me shortly after booking their venue. For summer weddings wedding photographers and videographers typically get booked a year beforehand. The winter wedding season is not quite as busy and I often get booked just a couple of months or even just weeks before the wedding date.

We meet

After a couple of emails or phone calls you might decide to meet a handful of potential photographers and videographers. I often meet couples for coffee and an informal chat. In this meeting I’d like to get to know you a bit and to find out what kind of wedding you have in mind.  I’ll introduce myself, pitch my ideas to you and leave you with a detailed quote.

Planning the day

I send you a link to the client-facing site of my booking system. Here you can add and amend any details for your day – my notes will be always in sync with yours. I need to know exact times and locations, names and number, shot lists and anything else that will make your big day run smoother.

Keeping in touch

During the next couple of months we will stay in touch every once in a while. Feel free to share your ideas with me on Pinterest or email. Keep me up-to-date if you like.

Confirming the details

About two weeks before your wedding I’d like to schedule a skype video call with you. We’ll talk about the planning of your day in detail including transfer times (e.g. travel from bride prep to groom prep session, etc.), shot lists and anything else (no two weddings are the same!).

The day before your wedding

I will recharge my batteries, clear my memory cards, clean my lenses and pack my bag – it’s a little ritual that I have to gather my concentration on what’s coming next. I’ll send you a text or email to confirm that I’m ready. You try to get some good sleep tonight! 🙂

Backup

Even if I arrive back home at 2am the first thing I do is backup. Every bit of data gets copied to a whole array of local hard disks. In addition to that I will upload all of your data into the cloud (perfectly password-protected of course).

Sneak Preview

The day after your wedding I will send you three retouched images as a preview. Most couples use these to announce their wedding on social media.

Photo editing

I go through all of the photos and select about 450 for your album. I edit each photo individually and adjust things like brightness, contrast, colours and cropping. I will export this album and a beautiful slideshow to a gorgeous, online, password-protected page on my website.

Your photos arrive

To me it’s always a special moment to click ‘send’ on the email containing the login details to your gallery. The photos are done and I would love to see your reactions when you see them! I often receive emails from couples on their honeymoon saying they have just seen all photos on their iPad on the beach and that they have felt all the emotions of their wedding day again. Making couples happy with my pictures is one of the best parts of my work!

You share your photos

Feel free to forward your gallery credentials to your family and friends. The gallery will work on any device. You can even download your photos in a smaller resolution to easily post them on social media.

Your Video is done

In the meantime I have been working hard to finish your video edits. The long version will include the preparations, the entire ceremony, footage of the afternoon, the speeches in full, your first dance in full as well as enough party footage to show off everybody’s dance moves. The short version is condensed to the highlights – a comfortable length to share with friends and family.

Your Photo Album and Prints

I’m happy to design and order beautifully crafted leather-bound coffee table photo albums for you. Please have a look here for more information.

USB stick arrives

As part of your package you receive a stylish wooden USB stick containing all of your pictures and your video. Simply plug it into your TV and relive your big day.

Invitation to review me

Once all of my work is completed you will receive an invitation to review my services on reviews.co.uk which is an independent professional review service. I’m very proud and grateful for the excellent reviews I have received in the past.

I hope this page has been useful and that you now have an impression of my style and approach to wedding photography. For an informal chat over coffee, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me today – I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
